I am interested in learning how to play an instrument, and guitars stick out the most in my mind, but is learning the guitar something most people don’t get? I see professional guitarists strumming their fingers along the strings every which direction, and it looks pretty tough to hit one string without hitting the others. So if anyone has experience with these, please tell me things to keep me from failing.

I am interested in learning how to play an acoustic guitar. I played piano for about 7 years, but have never played a guitar or any other instruments. I was wondering how difficult this would be and if I really need to take lessons, or if I would be able to learn it on my own. Any suggestions?

My 11year old has never played a musical instument and wants to learn bass guitar. I need advice whether it is better to first learn acoustic guitar.

Yep, it’s summer, and that means more time to learn guitar. Can anyone give me tips on how I should start off? I have never played guitar before, only piano. Should I purchase a guitar right off? If so, what kind/brand/model? Should I take classes or should I learn it by myself?

A friend told me that if you are going to learn to play guitar, it is better to learn acoustic before you play electric. I’m wondeirng a couple things. First, is this true? If so, why? And second, if it is true, why can’t it be done the other way around?
